This one goes out to the ladies, the gentlemen and the children of all ages!

It’s set to be a huge weekend in Montreal, and the buzz around That Darn Kat that just continues to grow is a huge reason why.

After monster performances at Ribfest in Pierrefonds, Ribfest in St. Lazare and an epic, rocking show at Macallans in Dorval, That Darn Kat will continue to make waves with an upcoming show at Brasserie des Rapides in LaSalle Saturday night.

The set list is, at present, a  closely guarded secret – but I have it on good authority they will play some new songs, marking a treat for those who have followed the band in the last few months.

Even if you haven’t followed the band closely the past few months, this weekend’s show – slated for a 7 p.m. start – promises to be a high-energy, rocking set that will leave you wanting more.

How do I know? I was at the Macallans show, and the one at Ribfest in Pierrefonds. I’m quickly learning how much work goes into making the magic that they create when they’re on stage.

Erin Malone is a star in the making as a vocalist, and her smoky, Linda Ronstadt-esque voice takes hits of yore and turns them into something familiar, but different – and always awesome.

Scratch that. She’s not a star in the making. She’s a star already.

Her renditions of Born to Run (Bruce Springsteen), Gimme Gimme Gimme (Abba), the ribald 90s hit I Touch Myself (The Divinyls) and a melody of Wrecking Ball (Mily Cyrus) ,mixed with Nothing Compares 2 U (Sinead O’Connor) are to be seen to be believed.

But don’t take my word for it.

Kicking ass on Born to Run

Bernie Noradounkian on guitar is also a marvel. His flawless shredding on iconic songs such as Joey (Concrete Blonde) and She Sells Sanctuary (The Cult) – which may make the cut for October 18th  –  make any That Darn Kat show memorable.

The acoustics of an indoor show truly allows the band’s sound to reverberate and fill the space, and the show at Brasserie des Rapides promises to showcase Malone and Noradounkian’s powerful sound.

Bassist Ron Dort keeps time and lends a hand on backup vocals, and veteran drummer Asher Fischer has been through the ringer as a veteran of Montreal’s music scene for the past, oh, three or four decades with the chops to show for it.

Rounding out the group on keyboards is my old hockey buddy Mike Pasternak, who brings equal parts passion and eclectic skills to the table.
